Deauville/Trouville and surroundings

In April 1993 Eva and I decided to go to Normandy in France for a one-week-holiday. We had half a small house in a holiday-village about 4 miles from the sea and were satisfied with our lodging. Beside some short trips to some of the villages in the near surroundings and to Rouen and Caen, we made a longer trip to Le Havre. It's not necessary to visit this town, we thougth after some hours. May be the cloudy weather was one reason, but we didn't find out, what has to be seen for a tourist. On our way back along the coast we crossed Honfleur, Trouville and Deauville, which are all pretty villages, that are worth to be seen.

The Pont de Tancarville that we had to take to cross the Seine.
Meanwhile there's a new bridge called Pont de Normandy for a shorter way to Le Havre.

Coming home of the fishing boats to Trouville (I think so)

Trouville (or may be Deauville?)

Pretty houses close to the beach of Deauville

Casino of Deauville

Mont-Saint-Michel

Another trip led us to the very famous Mont-Saint-Michel. This monastery-hill really is impressing and surely worth a visit! Even from far away you can see this imposing building.

Close by it's even more impressing...!

You can stay in this pretty lanes, full of tourists, for hours.
No matter if you're on the hill, where the monastery with the abbey is situated itself, or on the outer wall of the hill, there are interesting things all over to see. If there's low tide, you can walk around the whole hill, but should be careful about the fast coming high tide.

The Grande Rue has to be crossed on the way to the monastery

We drove on to St. Malo, an interesting old town, lying close to the sea and still having big parts of an old fortress. On our way back home we passed the now lighted Mont-Saint-Michel again and had a great sight at it; unfortunately it was to dark for a photo.

PARIS

We had to drive for to hours to reach Paris. Originally we haven't been prepared for this trip, but because of the small distance we just bought a map and went over there. After arriving there, we thought about all the sights that we had heard about before and tried to find them. Most I liked the driving around the Arc de Triomphe.
Cars appeared from all sides and some of them even drove roundabout. That's a roundabout traffic where you really have to think and to look, because there were no rows. Not very interesting was the sauntering on the Champs-Elysées; that might be better in the evening. We did also see the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Tour Eiffel (photo out of the car), where we however didn't find a car park.

A few times we passed the Hôtel des Invalides;
(thanks to Olivier for his advice)

Later in the afternoon we went to Montmartre, the Sacré-Coeur.
This church with the large staircase in front of it is really impressing.

There we've got a wonderful view all over Paris

That was all from Paris, followed by one comment. It's easy to come in, but very dificult to find out. All sides show other parts of the town but rarely outside.

A last trip in the Normandy led us to Cabourg, but the weather was so bad (only rain) that there's nothing to tell about. May be another time when the weather will be fine.

... finally many greetings to Eva; I hope you enjoyed our holidays, too.
