Because the report of the Côte d'Azur - holidays would've been to long (about 50 photos) I made this report for the Monacotrip seperately.

Getting to Monaco from the south we left the motorway at Nice and drove on the famous road Grande Corniche with it's lovely view to the coast and the Sea. Ther are many beautiful points of view, which in 1994 we couldn't enjoy, because of a very thick fog.

Beaulieu

Cap Ferrat

We unfortunately hadn't enough time to take a closer look at the beautiful village Èze

Our trip to Monaco was just one in row of many trips. I think it's not as great as it would be necessary to come here often, but once it's realy interesting. It mainly consists of two parts: the "Rock of the Grimaldi" with the palace, a nice park and a small old village and the rest of it with the marinas, the botanical garden and the region around the casino. This time we started with the "Rock of the Grimaldi". There you can park in the parking garage and go upstairs on the surface of the rock.

Close to the rocks, not always attractive, lies the quarter Monte Carlo

View to the palace and Monaco - Ville

It's not as beautiful as you may think over there. There are many tourists but the neither the lanes nor the palace are much impressing. Of course it's not bad, but the first time I was there I expected more.

On the rock close to the palace with a view back to the centre of the old village

At noon there's the daily change of the guards, that we missed.

so here's only a picture (one made of two) of the palace

View over the place in front of the palace to the police station where I nearly was arrested in 1994

Beside the nice park there are also a cathedral and oceanografical museum. In front of the palace you've a beautiful view to the big and the small marina (foto) on the different sides of the rock.

Then we left the rock and went to another parking garage next to the marina of Monte Carlo.

On our way up to the casino we fortunately saw the arrival of an impressing sailing ship.

Reaching the casino we finally got to the part of Monaco were you can even smell the money. There's the casino, a luxurious hotel next to it, the Café de Paris and some luxurious shops. The casino opens at 2 p.m. a room with slot machines, but you've to be 21 years old to be allowed to go in and although see the impressing foyer of the casino. I think it'll be even more impressing ar night when the casino really begins to live. Here are some more fotos to show you the afternoon feeling around the casino.

It's green near the casino

The Casino of Monte Carlo

The Café de Paris, next to the Casino

Of course you've to show who or what you are ...

That have been the most important impressions of Monaco. We didn't recognize any famous people, because most of the time Monaco is just an ordinary town. The exotic botanical gareden is surely worth a visit, because of it's interesting plants and it's beautiful view to the "Rock of the Grimaldi), but this time we didn't visit it. There are some pictures in the report of Côte d'Azur 1994. As I said before Monaco is worth one visit, but you don't have to come here more often. There are more beautiful places to see on the Côte d'Azur.
