Cannes and it's surroundings

On our way home from our holidays at the Costa del Sol Ralf and I still had five days of holidays left. In spite of knowing that the Côte d'Azur is full of beautiful places, we had planned to use these days in Cannes for relaxing from our exhausting past two weeks.  We had rent a 4-people-apartment in the large building of the Cannes Beach Residence that was just big enough for the two of us. Every morning we went to our terrace for having a big typical French breakfast ;-)

The centre of Cannes was about 1 1/2 miles away, so that we only one time visited the famous Croisette and the nice old lanes over there. Because of missing the the famous film contest of Cannes for about one month, we didn't see any famous stars.

The port of Cannes

Thinking of going for some trips, we mostly decided not to do them because of the weather (bad sight). So we only did two trips. One of these trips led us to Nice where we didn't really recognise, what's so great of the Promenade des Anglais but as my web-friend Martina from Paros told me, Nice is really great in spite of it's stony beach. Of course Nice is an interesting place and we went to the centre for some shopping.

Monaco

On our way to Monaco we passed Europe's most beautiful coast-road, as our guide told us, but that day the sight was so bad, that we couldn't even see the few meters from the coast down to the Sea. What a pity. In Monaco we walked a little bit up and down the streets and passed the Casino, but didn't risk some money.

Monte Carlo from the port...

... and from the botanic garden

The beautiful made an great situated botanic garden should be seen, if one not only came to have a look for some stars or nobility.

There you have a good view to the old town of Monaco with it's palace

Finally I've to tell you that a high motivated policeman ordered us to him, seeing us walking around in front of the palace. I had to follow him to the guard-room and he checked my passport. Five minutes later I was identified as "Lemon 007" and was allowed to go. That was quite a little bit of an adventure, but it was funny, too.

That's all of our stay on the Côte d'Azur that was much to short. One day I'll return and have enough time to see more of the region.

The end!!! Translated 2001.04.14
