Torremolinos

In the beginning of June 1994 my friend Ralf and I decided to go for holidays by car to Torremolinos (near Málaga). After a trip of 13 hours we stayed overnight in Lloret de Mar. The next day we still had to drive for another 9 hours to safely reach our destination, the Hotel Cervantes in Torremolinos. Although my car was broken in an accident by another german tourist on our second day over there, and always having to drive in a rented car, our holidays became really interesting and we saw a beautiful landscape.

The food in our 4-Star-Hotel was disappointing, but it's closeness to the centre of Torremolinos (100m) was very agreeable. To get to the beach we had to walk more than ten minutes indeed. The Hotel Melía Torremolinos is situated much closer to the beach, but it's really expensive. We didn't find the real disco-nightlife over there, but went to the pubs with the very nice Belgium girls Miranda and Hilde for many times. The highlights of Torremolinos surely are the fine sandy beach, the promenade of La Carihuela and the pedestrian precinct .

Visited destinations in the surroundings

Being PRYCA(now Carrefour)-fans, we were really happy finding our most favourite "Hipermercado" at the entrance of Málaga in the shopping center "Los Patios" (including a Mc'Donalds). The planned destination of this trip was the Castillo de Gibralfaro where you have a beautiful view all over Málaga and the nearby coast. To visit other sights our time was to short because we wanted to visit many more other places .

Ronda

The most famous "pueblo blanco" (white village) of Spain is really worth to be seen. Above all the streets near the famous bridge Puente Nuevo where you can look down in the 200 meters deep Tajo-canyon, you really feel like being on a holiday. You feel that you are in Spain. You won't regret your trip to Ronda.

Nerja

... is a holiday destination for many tourists, above all from Germany. The most famous place of this village, the Balcón de Europa is beautiful situated and really worth to be seen. Even more famous are the Cuevas de Nerja. This about 20,000 years old stalagmite-cave is really worth a visit.

El Torcal

An impressing landscape of rocks visitors can find in the Sierra de Torcal near Antequera. These strange shapes of rock could be regarded for hours. And there's no doubt; many of them look alike some big pancakes.

La Garganta del Chorro

... is also situated near Antequera and means "Chorro's gorge". It should be a breathtaking gorge, with masses of water falling down making horrible noise. After searching for a long time, we finally found the entrance of the gorge. But even if we didn't found a waterfall, we were very impressed indeed. Above all we liked the dangerous parts of the way without a railing on the border of the gorge. May be we could have found the waterfall walking on and on, but there was so little water in the gorge, that we couldn't image to find a real waterfall. At all we were very impressed of the gorge and one day we'll return and find the waterfall.

Alhambra in Granada

..., has to be seen!!! A large castle including a palace and a beautiful large garden with many flowers. Really impressing!!!

Marbella

On our trip to Marbella we were accompanied by Miranda and Hilde. After a short sightseeing-walk at the famous port Puerto Banús, we went for supper to the centre of Marbella to the wonderful Plaza de los Naranjos. This is a place in the middle of many old Spanish houses with many outdoor restaurants and some orange-bushes in the centre. The feeling over there is indescribable great.

Los Pueblos Blancos, Gibraltar and More

One day we made a trip to Gibraltar and were astonished. Police controlling each person leaving it, what took a long time. No view to Africa, because of the bad weather and nothing really interesting at the foot of the big rock. May be it's more interesting having a good sight and driving on top of the rock but this day was a bad day.

Los Pueblos Blancos

After leaving Gibraltar, we passed some of the famous white villages. The highlight surely was the beautiful situated village Casares, but also the bulls and the storks we saw were very interesting to see.
The other pictures I made somewhere in the landscape.

... and some lonely flowers

That was all I can tell you about the Cost del Sol (sunny coast) and it's surrounding. We didn't get to Mijas (not enough time); and there are no interesting pictures from the Sierra Nevada because the mountains looked very grey and a little bit disappointing (without snow).

The End!!! Translated in April 2001
